Moving into a Rental Home? Tips for a Good Start

Dear Renters, moving into a new home is exciting, isn’t it? But remember! Without proper planning and preparation, your experience might be a wack! Oh no!

And to avoid those things to happen, here are useful tips for our future occupants:

1. Know your lease terms!

Before entering into an agreement, and signing contracts, make sure to do your readings and research. Now that most leases are accessible online, please find time to carefully understand every clause and section of it. Do not forget to know the DOs and DON’Ts of the property!

2. Set-Up your Tenant Portal

Gone are the days where we do everything on paper. Your leases, payments, maintenance requests, and other services are now accessible through a tenant portal.

3. Pay your Security Deposit on Time.

A security deposit is money that is given to a landlord, lender, or seller of a home or apartment as proof of intent to move in and care for the domicile. You need to pay this as soon as possible in order for a landlord to give you privileges in the property. If payment gets delayed, you may not be able to settle in as expected.

4. Inspect the property.

It is better to give your landlord a heads up immediately once you saw something that needs repair. Do not wait until it gets worse. It will only cost you a lot more maintenance fees!

5. Maintain a good relationship with your landlord.

The house you are renting is not obviously yours. You are paying a sum of money to enjoy the perks of the neighborhood. Thus, one has an obligation to be a responsible and reliable tenant. If you wish to rent the home for a couple of years, you must keep a healthy relationship with your landlord.
